What Is a Kitchari Cleanse and What Can It Do for You?

If you are like most people, you are always looking for ways to be healthier and more at peace with yourself and your body. There are many diets and cleanses out there and it can be hard to differentiate between them and understand the benefits of each one. One of the cleanses that you may want to consider for yourself is the kitchari cleanse. Get to know some of the facts about the kitchari cleanse as well as what it can do for you so you can better decide if it's the right way to go for you and your health needs.

What Does Kitchari Mean?

Kitchari is a word that technically translates to "mixture." It generally is used to refer to the mixture of two types of grains or food. It comes from the Ayurvedic tradition. Ayurveda is a holistic medicine practice that has been around for thousands of years and is considered to be one of the oldest traditions around for holistic medicine.

Kitchari itself is generally made up of a mixture of beans and rice, specifically mung beans and basmati rice. Many spices are also added to the mixture not only for flavor but for their various health benefits.

What Is a Kitchari Cleanse?

A kitchari cleanse is a process in which a person detoxes their body by exclusively eating kitchari. This is usually a short cleanse. Many practitioners recommend it be done over just three days, though some cleanses do go longer depending on the individual and their unique needs.

The kitchari cleanse is considered to be a gentle cleanse. This is because it is not extreme in that it does not restrict a person to an all-liquid diet or the like. You will still be getting nutrition through the kitchari mixture and the mung beans and rice are enough to provide satiety and satisfaction in a way that many cleanses do not.

When a person is doing a kitchari cleanse, they will also likely be drinking special teas that are designed to help cleanse the body, removing toxins and otherwise soothing the body through the process.

What Are the Benefits of a Kitchari Cleanse?

There are numerous benefits to consider with the kitchari cleanse. First of all the mung beans are a food that naturally helps clear the muck from out of your intestines. This cleansing in and of itself can help with your overall digestion and removes toxins that have built up in the body. Kitchari also provides a number of important nutrients to the body including many amino acids. Amino acids play a role in several functions throughout the body including growth, healing, and digestion among many others.

Kitchari is also a substantial enough food that your blood sugar will not go out of whack when you are on this cleanse. Having a stable blood sugar through a cleanse helps to better remove toxins from the body safely and maintain overall health and bodily functions throughout the cleansing process.

Convenient Health Foods

A few years ago I started unexpectedly gaining weight. Because I didn’t want to shop for new clothes in a larger size, I completely overhauled my diet plan. At first I was afraid I couldn’t eat healthy due to my busy schedule. Thankfully, I discovered many convenient health foods available at supermarkets today. Some of my favorite healthy, convenient items on grocery store shelves include prewashed baby carrots and salad greens. I also adore the taste of elbow macaroni noodles made out of quinoa. On this blog, I hope you will discover delicious health foods you can prepare for your family quickly.
